x To understand how photographic camera works and records images.
x To acquire the necessary visual and technical skills

Module Outline


Unit 1: History of photography & Understanding Image
Background, early history and development of digital photography - Types of Photography and
techniques - Types of shots: distance, angle and movement; digital image basics: image format,
resolution, aspect ratio, Pixels.


Unit 2: Introduction to digital photography & technicalities
Introduction to digital photography, digital cameras How camera works; Exposure: shutter speed,
aperture, ISO; arriving at proper exposure, depth of field, white balance, soft focus, long exposure,
short exposure, multiple exposures, time-lapse photography; Understanding lenses: wide angle
lenses, telephoto lenses, and macro lenses.


Unit 3: Understanding lights and lighting techniques
Natural vs. artificial lights, the characteristics of light, color temperature, Direction of light, intensity
of light, hard and soft lighting, direct light, diffused light, high key lighting, low key lighting, 3-point
lighting.
Pedagogy: Offline class and instructor led training
Assessment Procedure: Multiple choice questions & Practical Assignments
