GENERAL GUIDELINES

Little flower Institute of Social Sciences and Health(LISSAH) is powered by its vision Towards Life in Its Fullness. Students are therefore expected to imbibe this guiding spirit and behave responsibly. LSSAH respects the freedom of individuals and at the same time believes the concept of freedom with responsibility. The following are certain general guidelines for the students to build a healthy relationship among themselves with the staff and to create an atmosphere conducive to serious academic pursuit with a social commitment.


I. Code of Conduct

A) Every morning we begin our day with a prayer at 9.20 am. The Principal/Director greets the entire LISSAH family after prayer and therefore all the members of the staffand students s hould present in the class without fail.
B) The students should be regular and punctual in the class. Students should abide bythe  rules and regulations of the college and conduct himself or herself with decorum in the class and campus under all circumstances. Disrespectful behavior of students towards the teachers and the ministerial staff will be seriously dealt with.
C) The students are expected to respect and greet the staff as per the time and occasion demands.
D) During the class the students should obtain the permission of the teacher in the class to enter or leave the class.
E) The students should observe strict silence in the absence of a teacher as well as while teachers vacate one class to move on to another. Students are advised to make use of the library or computer lab during free hours. Students shall not loiter on the passages or college premises during working hours for any reasons whatsoever.
F) Students are not allowed to enter any class room without permission other than their own.
G) Late arrival scroll should be counter signed by parent/guardian and warden (for hostellers) in the event of late reporting at college.
H) Rioting/agitating against another group of students or against members of Staff/Principal /Management for any reason whatsoever is prohibited.
I) Students are requested not to sit on the staircases of the college obstructing the way of the staff and students.
J) If any student engages in any undesirable actions such as violence, clash, strikes of any sort in the campus or outside, they will have to face the disciplinary action taken by the college as per the norms.
K) It is the responsibility of the students to maintain the college building and campus neat and tidy. They are not allowed to stamp on the walls, smear /scratch the furniture and litter the campus.
L) Conduct Certificate will not be issued as a matter of course. It has to be earned by the student’s good conduct and behaviour. The decision of the Principal shall be final regarding this matter.

II. Dress Code and Identity Card


A) Students must appear in Department Uniform on the days assigned by the college. Non compliance will be fined by the Department. On other days students are expected to wear modest, neat, dignified dress. Printed and collarless T-Shirts are to be avoided. Boys shall not tuck up their dhoti while they are on the campus.
B) Freak hair styles are not allowed on the campus.
C) ID card is mandatory for entering the campus.
D) The students should always wear the Identity Card issued by the college, especially when going out for field work, seminar or other programmes.

III. Attendance / Leave / Activities

A) Students should be regular in attending the classes.
B) Attendance will be marked at the beginning of each hour by the teacher engaging the class.
C) If one teaching hour is missed, it is equal to missing half a day’s attendance.
D) Students who do not have at least 75% of attendance are not eligible to appear for university examinations.
E) Continuous unauthorized absence of more than fourteen days from the class will lead to the removal of name from the rolls.
F) Students participating in sports/games, NCC/NSS and other co-curricular activities on working hours/days should get prior permission from the Principal through the Head of the Department/Faculty In-Charge and it should be intimated in advance to the teachers concerned to avail leave of absence.
G) Application for condonation of shortage of attendance may be forwarded to the university only if the absence is on genuine grounds and necessary medical certificates are attached.
H) Departmental Associations/ NSS/Clubs are advised not to arrange programmes during class hours and if such meetings are inevitable to be held during class hours a prior permission from the Principal is necessary.
I) The students are expected to participate in seminars/ conferences etc. conducted by the college. We encourage the students to participate in seminars in other colleges. The permission of the Principal should be obtained through the Head of the Department concerned to participate in such programmes.
J) No student is expected to approach the Principal in person for enquiry on attendance. In case of doubts or grievance they may approach the Head of the
Department.
K) The students are not allowed to organize any picnics, tours or outings without the written permission from the Principal and such programmes should be arranged with the knowledge and support of the teachers.
L) No photograph of the LISSAH students shall be printed or published on internet that will embarrass any student or student community.
M) The students are bound to obey the directions given by the teachers and disobedience to such directions would amount to grave misconduct. If a teacher expels a student from the class on the grounds of misbehaviour in the class the matter should be reported to the Principal by the teacher and the student.

N) The relation between students irrespective of gender must be characterized by mutual respect and maturity.
O) Participation in Student Development Programmes (SDP) and such other growth oriented programmes are compulsory.


IV. Written Permission from the Principal is Necessary

A) To organize meetings, processions, entertainment or special functions in the college or college campus including the hostel.
B) To distribute notice or put up notice on the notice board in the college or campus, hanging banners and for making announcements in the classes.
C) To collect funds from students and the staff.
D) To organize any demonstrations or meetings on the campus. Any sort of celebration in the campus should be modest and within social decorum. Any sort of
celebration using fire crackers, eggs, colour powders etc are not allowed in the campus as they can be dangerous and spoil the campus. Celebrations are not allowed on the campus after 5 pm. The students except those who participate in the sports and games, must not remain on the campus after 5 pm.
E) The students shall not bring any outsiders other than parents/guardian to the campus for any purpose whatsoever be the reason without the prior permission of the Principal. Students are not allowed to invite anyone to a programme in the college without the permission of the Principal and if permission is granted, it should be intimated to the people in charge of organizing the programme. No external involvement will be allowed in the affairs of the college.
F) Any sort of visitors are not allowed to meet any of the staff or students in the campus without the prior consent of the Principal.
G) If anyone is found not complying with the above mentioned clauses, he / she shall be liable for proceedings against him/ her for misconduct.

V. Political Activities are not Permissible on the Campus

A) Political activities are strictly prohibited on the college campus.
B) As per the order of the Honorable high Court of Kerala, all strikes, demonstrations, agitations, dharnas, gheraoes and the like are banned on the college campus. Students who violate the above rules are liable to be dismissed from the college. Therefore, students shall keep away from all sorts of agitations like strike, disturbing classes, taking out processions, shouting slogans etc. on the college premises. They shall not bring flags, placards, leaflets, pamphlets, notice boards, banners, posters or any publicity material of any political parties or student organizations to the campus.
C) Mode of Students’ Union Election on the campus shall be Parliamentary.

VI. Drug Abuse

The students are warned against the consumption of alcohol and the use of tobacco in any of its various forms. Students are advised to abstain from drug use and campaign against all sorts of substance abuse. Any violation in this regard will be strictly dealt with.

 

VII. Handling of College property

A) All electronic devices and equipments like LCD projector, Laptops, Amplifier, Mike, Cables, Switch board etc shall be used with utmost care and responsibility.

B) In case of damage or loss, a fine (charge of repair or the price of a new product) shall be extracted from the person responsible for the damage. All sports equipments should be kept in the sports room only.

C) Every educational institution is a temple of learning for the future generations too. It is therefore expected of every student not to deface college property. Students are advised not to write or make any markings on the walls, furniture and any other parts of the college. If any student is found guilty of causing damage to the assets of the college, intentionally or unintentionally, he/ she shall be liable to be punished and the expense if any, either for repair or replacement, will be redeemed from the student concerned or collective fines will be imposed on all students.

VIII. Use of Mobile Phones

A) The students are strictly prohibited from using mobile phones in the college as per the Order of Government of Kerala. Offenders will be charged with a fine and the mobile phone will be confiscated.

IX. Conveyance of Students

A) Vehicles of the students are not allowed in the college campus. Students should park their vehicles in the parking area specially allotted for them. Students should not park their vehicles at the entrance of the college obstructing the way.

B) The college believes in the protection of our nation’s long cherished ideal of secularism and we expect everyone to respect it.

C) These are but general guidelines given for the information of students. The students are bound to obey the directions of the Principal and Management, issued from time to time. Such directions and notifications will be put up on the notice board and therefore the students are expected to go through the notices displayed on a day to day basis.

X. LIBRARY

A) LISSAH has a well-equipped library with a large number of books, good many periodicals and all the leading dailies in Malayalam and English. The library remains opened from 9 am. to 5 pm. on all working days, including Saturdays.

B) Students are advised to use library during free hours.

C) Strict silence must be maintained in the library and its premises as it is a place for serious reading and research.

D) Students should leave their personal belongings like books, bags, umbrella, files etc. at the counter at the entrance assigned for this purpose, before entering the library. Students are allowed to carry only blank sheets of paper with them to the library.

E) Students can borrow books from the library on producing the Borrower-Card/Readers’ Ticket issued to them by the librarian. The Borrower- Card /Readers’ Ticket is not transferable.

F) The students while borrowing a book should check it for any damage, marking/writing, mutilation or defect of any sort and if something noticed, it must be reported to the librarian before leaving the counter.

G) The students are expected to use the books with utmost care. The borrower will be held responsible for any defect detected when the book is returned and he/ she will be required to replace defective book either with a new one or pay the compensation fixed by the librarian.

H) If a book is lost it must be replaced with a new one or an amount as compensation fixed by the librarian. If the lost or damaged book belongs to a set or series and a new volume is not separately available, the whole set or series of books should be replaced or paid for.

I) The loan period is normally fourteen days but the librarian has the right to recall any book, at any time from a borrower, even if the term of the loan has not completed. The loan period may be extended or shortened at the discretion of the librarian. If the book borrowed from the library is not returned on or before the due date, a fine of Rs/-5 (Rupees five only) will be charged per day, on each book

J) Students should enter the names and details in the prescribed register before entering the library.

 

XI Disciplinary Actions

A) Students are bound to obey the directions, issued by the Principal, Teachers and the Authorities.  Disobedience to such directions would be considered as serious misconduct.

B) Any student, who is found to have misconducted himself/herself inside or outside the class room or in the college premises is liable to undergo the actions taken by the Authority for the said misconduct.

C) A teacher has the power to send a student out of the class if the student misbehaves in the class. If any student is sent out of the class, both the teacher and the student shall report the matter to the Principal immediately. 

 D) The Principal have the power to take punitive measures upon the offenders such as: fine, cancellation of attendance, withholding the term certificate, forfeiting education concession and scholarship, suspension, compulsory issue of T.C. without the application from the student or guardian, and expulsion from the campus.
